Signing Plates – Information & Instructions

Instead of a traditional guestbook/greetings card that you may never look at again, a signing plate can be displayed with pride, an unusual handpainted reminder of your very special day.

A signing plate gives a personal record of the guests who attend your Engagement, Wedding, Anniversary, Christening, Birthday, Retirement …. and their thoughts about you and your special day, which is essential for any important occasion.

Smashing Glass Designs has a wide range of Ceramic Guest Books/Signing Plates that are beautiful, practical and represent excellent value. You’ll find a choice of style and design that reflects both traditional, contemporary and funky tastes and also allows you to decide on the size of the signing plate that you want (either 27cm – £20.00 or 32cm – £25.00). Both have ample space for guests to both sign and leave a few remarks to help you remember that very special day.

How it Works

* Ask all guests to sign the plate with the included porcelaine fine point pen
(this will be touch dry after approx. 30 secs to avoid smudging!)
* Leave to dry for 24 hrs
* Place the plate in a cold, empty oven and close the door
* Set the temperature to 150*c and time for 35 minutes from this time
* Once 35 minutes has passed turn the oven off but DO NOT open the door (can cause the plate to crack)
* Allow the oven to cool down completely, then remove the plate from the oven
* Your signing plate is now sealed! A perfect reminder of your special day

Getting Everyone to sign your Guest Book:

In order to ensure that you get the most from your guest book, and to ensure that all your guests are remembered in time to come, I would strongly recommend that you put someone in charge of getting every guest to sign the plate. It’s also best to do this early in the reception, whilst everyone is sitting and before too much has been drunk – that way what the guests write may remain legible!!
